Apologies: Craig Woodward, Tim Tuck, Belinda Wundersitz, Deb Schwartz, Bri Medcaflf, Rex Walker, Richard Cane, Val Mclean, Tim Rowe. Minutes from previous AGM Accepted Business arising: Nil Treasurer’s ReportProfitable year. New acquisitions mean we no longer hire stuff. Healthy financials due to Leanne’s input and the quality of the shows + popularity with show choice and persons involved. A good ticket selling program is now tuned finely. President’s Report:Read and accepted Election of Offices:President: Paul Hayles (nom Leanne, sec Roger) Vice President: Craig Woodward (nom Lyn, sec Dianne) Secretary: Tim Tuck (nom Paul, sec Roger) Treasurer: Roger Morgan (nom Lyn, sec Leanne) Committee: Tim Rowe, Lyn Hayles, Tony Hayles, Dianne Morgan, Deb Schwartz, Belinda Wundersitz, Lorraine Linke. (Val Mclean, Bob Turbefield, Bri Medcalf to be approached also). Life Members: Bob McKnight †, Joyce McKnight †, David Pearce †, Patricia Glacken † Margaret Francis, Leanne nominated Greg Twelftree as Life Member, Lorraine seconded. It would be great to acknowledge his involvement with the club since his school days. It was discussed as to when the presentation could be made and Tony informed all present that in other committees the nomination for Life Member is to be presented in the following AGM year. It was decided that it would be desirable to present such an award at the next musical production of the club in 2011. Patrons: Lois Greenslade, Peter Goers, Bill Chappell, Senator Alan Ferguson, Robert Schultz, Steven Griffiths, Mayor Ray Agnew, Ricki Bruhn (or work in kind), Dale Fergusson.
Membership FeesLorraine suggested keeping the fees at current rates of $25 (adult), $15 (student) to cover insurance costs. All agreed. General Business:Roger suggested that we write to the schools in Maitland to make them aware of all of the resources now available between the three groups. Leanne voiced concern about microphones being lent out and being returned damaged as they are so fragile. Tony enquired about insurance covering damages, however the items are relatively cheaply replaced and the excess for such claims would make the claim not worthwhile. It would seem fair that each group purchases their own microphones and fix or replace as needed. It was decided that the club shall only lend out robust equipment only. A meeting is to be scheduled with the school groups where three reps could get something in writing on paper as to the agreement for use of the others stuff. SponsorshipAnzac Day $25-40 to CYP Library- attend dawn service MAS Presentation Night Attendance by club member for presentation. Sing AustraliaThe nationwide group has very good resources and awareness of up-coming performances or arrangements across the state and the country. It was reported by Dianne that membership for Sing Australia is currently $33 annually and $4 per session to cover insurance. Leanne and Roger proposed that the club could make a donation of up to $1000 to cover up-front fees per person, specifically for the establishment of a local branch of Sing Australia under the direction of Lorraine Linke, to include many more people in singing from a broader area. Theatre RestaurantDianne enquired as to whether Leanne’s group “Loose Cannonz” would be interested in doing a theatre restaurant show at Maitland as a fundraiser: e.g.- a travelling show > show at Ardrossan, then at Maitland. Leanne commented that it would have its difficulties… both performances would need to be on the same weekend to ease rehearsal times…but logistically it is hardest to move the show, even though it is ‘moveable’. Understandings from both towns that it may encroach onto each ones audience. With other performance venues now becoming available, Leanne suggested a workshop-type show (Godspell). This may be easier to achieve with a different venue. We have the likes of a lot of very helpful people who are in-the-know. It may just bring in more support with new members also. Perhaps we could consider a specific focused storyline for each town / group. Di reported that at Blyth they have a regular thing where they perform a show or show a DVD at Markets such as Maitland Markets to target the new audiences (grey nomads and travelling folk).
New EquipmentIt would be very helpful to lighting and sound crew to have a permanent ladder to use for installations, so it was unanimously decided that one suitable for this purpose be purchased. Future Productions:Leanne delighted the gathering with her ideal shows for the upcoming 2011 club production. Those being… 1. OLIVER 2. LI’L ABNER Oliver would be ideal to include many young cast members; however there are very few female parts. The set would have to be large enough to accommodate a large cast with scaffolding out from the front of stage. Another ‘truck’ would probably be necessary. Hair and Make-up would be extensive compared to previous shows. With a contingent of up to 30 children there may be some technical challenges and attitudes must be fairly mature for the responsibilities of the parts. Split rehearsals would be likely. Li’l Abner looks like a bright and colourful show. We watched a DVD of the early-American comical show. It has a relatively large cast (approx 40) and doesn’t exactly have any one part with a majority of the dialogue or singing. The rights for this show are available from Tams Wittmark in USA.
